Fun Ho! History

Boomaroo Toys - Tinplate Toys c. 1960s

This firm made a good range of strong tinplate toys which fitted the Domestic as well as the usual Commercial and Agricultural scenes. New Zealand Importers, Mair and Co. imported this brand from Australia about 1960-1962, but it is suspected that Boomaroo toys may have been in New Zealand for a longer period than this.

These toys had either "made in Australia" or "made in New Zealand" under the Boomaroo logo, so it is not clear whether the this was a label of convenience, or whether they were actually made in this country, maybe under license. If so, who made them, and when and where?

The other big question is why so many Jumbo toys are fitted with marked Boomaroo rubber cleated wheels? If you know the answer to these questions, or have any information about this brand, or pictures of other Boomaroo toys, please let us know.
